Sylvester Road

work-in-progress

The design for this residence, due to be completed in 2025, takes its inspiration from the concept of a Natural Symphony, a narrative that acts as a unifying thread, weaving together the rich history of the house with the clients' love for nature, passion for dance, and interest in high-tech living. Every element, from finishes and joinery to furniture and lighting, reflects this theme. Warmth permeates the environment, while contrasting elements like historical details juxtaposed with contemporary finishes, light and shadow dancing together, and soft furnishings contrasting with bold architectural lines, create a dynamic interplay. As a nod to the owners' French heritage and love for both ballet and nature, the color palette for this home draws inspiration from the artistry of Edgar Degas. Muted tones reminiscent of the natural backdrops in his paintings set the stage, while delicate pops of color echo the hues of the dancers' skin and dresses. This approach creates a harmonious blend that celebrates the essence of French grace and the captivating beauty of the natural world.

Stepping into the hallway, the house's eclectic spirit unfolds. Deep red walls and a nature-inspired statement light set a bold first impression. Ascending the stairs, the biophilic theme continues. A gradient runner mimics the lush English countryside, mirroring the verdant views outside the window. Atmospheric wall lights illuminate the way, while a rhythmic installation of mirrors creates the illusion of a grander space.

The living room seems enveloped by wood, creating a cozy nook for relaxation. Whether you're unwinding with a good book, enjoying a movie, or lost in music, this haven invites tranquility. The overall colour palette is a calming symphony of muted tones. Natural elements are seamlessly woven into the design, with an expressive stone coffee table and verdant greenery scattered throughout the space, completing the sense of peace and harmony.

Matte green walls and ceiling envelop the kitchen and dining room in a serene embrace. Existing cabinetry, imbued with a sense of familiarity, has been thoughtfully retained. A striking juxtaposition unfolds: a rococo chest of drawers, cherished for generations by the family, stands proudly next to a contemporary art piece. Vintage Stillnovo Megafono sconces bathe them both in a warm glow. Gathering around the iconic Eero Saarinen Tulip table, illuminated by a trio of Tom Dixon's Stone pendants, feels like a celebration of both heritage and modern style.

The Master Bedroom thrives on a bold interplay of textures. Veined timber, rich with character, stands in stark contrast to the sleek glossy black details. This dynamic duo sets the stage, drawing inspiration from the existing art deco chest of drawers and desk. Bespoke joinery meticulously echoes these contrasting elements, creating a sense of cohesive luxury. A simple bed and antique bedside tables, crafted from the same warm wood and accented with black details, find their place beneath a captivating artwork and the gentle glow of the table lamps.
